Wednesday, May 22, 2019 marked the last day of our tutoring year. It was the 13th year as a ministry program to the children and families in the Escondido community. We finished the year with a pizza party for our students, their families and our tutoring staff.

This year we served 15 students from North Broadway Elementary School. The majority of our students have made excellent progress in their reading skills. We helped students finish homework and improve math and writing skills. The challenge for our students is the commitment to consistently attend on Mondays and Wednesdays. The issue of transportation for working families is always a problem. Yet we are inspired by the devotion of these parents to make education a priority in their children’s lives. Three of our students only missed two days!

The year would not have been possible without our amazing volunteers: Libby Campbell, Claire Dyekman, Carolyn Hammock, Kathy Henry, Mary Ann Murphy, Carol O’Neil, Cynthia Poole, Martha Smith, and Debbie Whitty.  We also had the support of six outstanding Escondido High School Students. A very special “Thank You” to Cynthia Poole for her loving dedication to our program. A Joyful Noise was heard every Monday from the music room in Plymouth House.

We will begin our 14th year of operation in October 2019. I invite you to consider volunteering in this vital church ministry. You too, can make a difference in the life of a child.

With Grace and Gratitude,
